Pamplona – Estella 51km

Mountain paths continue. After Pamplona the route is again rather steep. Although the route goes mainly in the wild nature, there is no real danger of losing one’s way.

The hiking route of Santiago de Compostela has been marked with yellow arrows and with clamshell figures. The scallop has been the pilgrim’s symbol since the Middle Ages. Earlier it was used as a “badge of honor” for a completed hike to Santiago de Compostela. Nowadays it has become an unofficial logo of the pilgrimage culture. The clamshell figures are found in the walls of houses, lampposts; they are drawn into the asphalt, the figures are put together by dirt roads, they hang from tree branches and on the hikers’ backpacks. The restaurants and inns meant for the hikers also often use this symbol. You will find your way to the end, as long as you follow the clamshell.
